We have some time before boarding our 9 hour flight home and free wifi, so let me catch you up a bit. We toured Vatican City yesterday (details and photos in a future post) , had a wonderful dinner and strolled along the Tiber.
After a brutally hot day at the Vatican, we thought we'd rest for an hour back at our apartment. Several hours later, we awoke, had an espresso in the piazza and went looking for a restaurant for dinner. As we walked across the bridge to Tiber island, we came across "Sora Lella" and Geri recognized it from an Anthony Bourdain special on Rome. They had a table for two - perfetto! We started with a Negroni and prosecco, chose our meal, but couldn't decide on whether a red or white would pair best with our selections. What to do? Order a half-litre of each! Geri had the "Cacio e Pepe", a Roman classic, and I had homemade fettucini with a white veal/truffle sauce. This is why you can trust Bourdain ...
Deciding to walk off our meal, we continued across the Tiber when we heard classical violins and came upon an outdoor concert. Sorry that we don't have a soundtrack to share.
The city streets are about 2 stories above the river itself, but there are concrete banks at water level. Every night restaurants and vendors set up for a street festival and we joined the crowds on our last night in Rome.
(Our posts won't end with our return home - look for the Tusa visit, Vatican, random thoughts and a link to our Picasa on-line photo album)
Does look like a good time had by all. We will need a full recap when you are back.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading and seeing all the great pics. You should consider writing a traveling book. :)
